Every July, the Milal Love Camp is held, where ten Milal mission groups from the eastern region gather. Due to COVID, it took a break for three years, but this year, preparations are underway expecting around 600 participants. Let’s consider the meaning and purpose of the Love Camp.
First, it is a time to provide rest and joy to people with disabilities. When the summer vacation comes, the general public engages in outdoor activities such as camping, retreats, and recreational gatherings, which offer them a time of rest and enjoyment. However, people with disabilities have relatively fewer opportunities for such experiences. That’s why Milal mission groups started the Love Camp 31 years ago, and now it has become one of the most anticipated times for people with disabilities.
Second, it is a time to comfort and benefit parents and families. When parents from the ten Milal mission groups gather, they empathize with and comfort each other while sharing their difficulties. They come to understand God’s will in allowing them to have a child with a disability and become counselors to each other, giving hope. Even after the camp ends, they continue to exchange information and maintain fellowship.
Third, it is a time for volunteers to receive grace. Many volunteers who participated in the Milal Love Camp consistently say that they came to serve but ended up receiving even more grace. In a world where everyone is exhausted and weary from pursuing abilities and success, second-place strives tirelessly not to lose to first-place, and first-place never rests to maintain its position. However, the Love Camp is a world of God’s love, where not only the strong find rest but also the weak find joy.
Fourth, it is a time to share the Gospel and accept the Lord. We believe that through accepting Jesus, not because of their disabilities, but by receiving Him, people with disabilities are saved. People with disabilities are those who need Jesus the most, but they have limited opportunities. Through the Love Camp, people with disabilities accept Jesus, and those who already believe experience the love of the Lord even more. Of course, it is also a great opportunity for volunteers to share Jesus.
Fifth, it is a time to shine the light in the world. The light of Jesus should not be confined to the church alone. It should also shine in society so that we can experience God’s kingdom on this earth. The Love Camp is an excellent opportunity to connect the church and the world.
There are disabled individuals and volunteers who want to go but cannot due to economic circumstances. Additionally, organizing the camp requires significant financial resources because the participation fees are kept to a minimum. Therefore, sponsorship is needed.
